When do newborn infants begin to sleep at night more, and are more alert during the day?

Hummingbird asked: I think I’m going crazy. I can’t really sleep during the day because of my 13 month old. My newborn is 2 weeks now, and I have to nurse her 3 times during the night, but she takes long naps during the day. When should this reverse?? AHHHHHH!Kevin

How long should a newborn which is 3 weeks old sleep in a day?

Good Answer asked: I have a newborn which sleeps most of the day. He gets up to feed every 4 or 5 hours, but he seems to be up to feed for about 3-4 hours a day total time. I heard the average was 16 hours of sleeping a day.

How many straight hours does your newborn sleep during the day?

Jamie asked: My 2 month old newborn sleeps a lot during the day she eats and sleeps all day and is up maybe 3 hours straight at the most and the rest of the time she’s up for maybe an hour for feeding, just want to make sure she’s on track?Lorrie
